“The Sound and the Fury” was an UNDERCOVER live doll making exhibition which toured Asia beginning in 2008. It centered around the mythological GRACE: defiant creatures swathed in neutral toned lace and pearls, sprouting multiple arms, plushy fur, with large light-bulb faces. These creatures are protected by GILA(Grace of Inspiration and Lasting Adoration, Grace of Industry and Luster of Ashes, Grace of Imagination Locomotion and Admiration), a singular organization which serves and interacts with the GRACE. For the s/s 2010 collection Takahashi introduced Light Laboratories, a group of men who center their studies around an unidentified animal (UMA). Dr. Bill, Asano, and Hagen give up their lives to research these cryptic beings who are much more dragon-like. GILA would go on to form “Lullaby with the Lamb” and in “Grace- Red Signal” the organization ZAM (Zero After Million, Zap all Mementos, Zeus and Mortals, Zoolatrous Association of Mankind) preaches “FREE GRACE” while resisting new world order. The events were accompanied by live music and guest DJ’s such as Kan Takagi and Nobuhiko Kitamura (HYSTERIC GLAMOUR). Along with the GRACE and “Less But Better,” the events aided in representing philosophies of consumption and restraint.
